Dates for Rainy Weather

When you think of the perfect date, what’s the weather like? Most likely it’s sunny — not too hot, not too cold — maybe with a bit of a warm breeze in the air. In the UK, however, your typical date weather doesn’t look much like that, so it’s good to have some romantic rainy-day date ideas stashed away. The weather might not be perfect (it might not even be good) but you can still have a romantic date and create some fantastic memories.

Walk in the rain

As long as the temperature isn’t too cold, or the rain particularly heavy, a walk in the rain can be a romantic experience. A park can be a great place for this — just be sure that your walking route includes good footpaths, so that you don’t end up walking in mud. Bring along a thermos of hot cocoa or coffee to share with your date, to help you stay warm.

Note: make sure your date knows you’ll be spending some time outdoors, so that they can dress appropriately. It’s also good to be aware of the possibility that you might get a resoundingly negative reaction to this idea—for some people, a walk in the rain might be a thoroughly unpleasant experience rather than a romantic lark.

Have an indoor picnic

A good picnic can be just as romantic indoors as out, especially if you have a fireplace. Clear some floor space and cover it with a fluffy blanket. Prepare some tasty finger food, including a few of your date’s favourites, and open a bottle of bubbly. Candles, soft music, dim lights, and a roaring fire create the perfect romantic atmosphere.

Check out some indoor activities

There are lots of things you can do indoors, and while some of these might not be very date-like, they can provide you with a good few hours of entertainment. And if you’re enjoying the company, whatever activities you choose will be that much better. Try this list out for ideas:

  • Bowling
  • Laser tag
  • Roller skating or ice skating at an indoor rink
  • Visit a museum
  • Go to a pool hall for a drink and a few games
  • Visit a games arcade for pinball and Pacman

Have a movie or game night

It might not be the most fun thing ever on a typical date, but on a rainy night a good movie or a game can feel like a cosy treat. Add warm blankets, hot drinks, and delicious snacks to round the evening off.

See a show

If there are plenty of theatres in town, check out what’s on offer on that rainy day. Many theatres — even some of the big West End theatres — have last-minute tickets available, thanks to cancellations and other issues. Often these empty seats are available much cheaper than usual.

Of course, you won’t be able to find out in advance of the day what’s available, so the success of this rainy day idea hinges on you and your date being open to whatever show has empty seats. It could be an amazing show you’ve always wanted to see, or it could be an obscure play you’ve never heard of. Either way, the randomness of the date will definitely increase the fun factor!

Stay at a romantic hotel

If your relationship has gotten to this stage, a night at a good hotel can be a fun activity. Have dinner in the hotel restaurant, or stay in and order room service. Either way, you get to enjoy a luxurious night in with no clean-up and no housework!
